Create a Free Web Page through your iPhone with Zapd

Ever need to create a quick web page for yourself but don’t have the right tools? Now you can actually create a page directly from your iPhone (News - Alert) courtesy of an app called Zapd.

Compatible with the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, Zapd is a free app that lets you build a quick, simple web page with text, photos, and links. By choosing from a variety of themes, you can opt for a specific look and feel for your page without having to deal with any HTML or backend coding.

After downloading Zapd from Apple’s App Store, you’ll need to first register your account. You can either register through Facebook (News - Alert) or create a dedicated Zapd account by specifying your name, email address, and a password. Once your account is generated, you can modify your profile to display your name and email as well as your phone number and address should you wish.

You then choose the theme you wish to apply to your page. Zapd offers several with different layouts, colors, and textures depending on the mood you wish to strike with your page. After naming your page, you can then add text, photos, and links by dragging and dropping various widgets onto your page. You can preview your page as you build it and try different templates to zero in on the right style.

After you’ve created and published your page, you can view it through a URL that’s assigned to you. You can also view it at the Zapd Showcase along with all the other public pages. And of course, you can always edit your page at any time. To test Zapd, I created a quick page displaying the artwork of my mom, a watercolor artist for whom I had already created a full web site.

Though the benefit of the service is its ability to let you create web pages on the go, Zapd recently launched a Web page editor so you can create new pages and edit existing ones through the Web site.

Since you’re building them from your iPhone, the pages you create are meant to be simple. So you can’t design pages that require any coding on the backend. But the idea behind Zapd is to build and maintain pages that you can update on the go through your mobile device without need for a full HTML editor. Your pages are also optimized to be viewed on mobile devices, something that can be challenging when you’re using a typical HTML application.

Zapd is meant more for creating personal web pages, but small businesses and consultants could use the tool to create demo pages, basic landing pages, or just simple pages in which they can blog about or promote themselves. You can learn more about Zapd by visting the company’s blog section.
