MontaVista Software to Showcase Commercial Linux Products and Services

MontaVista Software has said that it will be showcasing its commercial Linux products and services at a conference. The company is also expected to demonstrate its Bare Metal Engine, which delivers technologies required for the next generation multi-core SoCs to achieve high performance.

Leveraging new multi-core resource management capabilities, MontaVista’s (News - Alert) Bare Metal Engine fully maximizes multi-core designs, and delivers new high availability features incorporating the latest open source technologies, said company officials.

Company officials said that Bare Metal Engine provides a configurable run-time environment that delivers RTOS performance inside a Linux environment. With this application, users can create a dedicated environment to run user-space applications, providing bare-metal execution and performance all within a Linux environment.

Moreover, Bare Metal Engine allows users to select their own unique balance between system-services and bare metal performance. Dan Cauchy, vice president of marketing and business development at MontaVista Software, said that using Bare Metal Engine, applications can “significantly” increase performance and competitive differentiation without increasing hardware compute capability.

“Bare Metal engine optimizes performance by fusing applications with high-speed I/Os which enables utilization of up to 99.9 percent of the available processor power,” Cauchy said.

Additionally, MontaVista’s Bare Metal Engine environment offers access to all the Linux services, eliminating the need for additional overhead of a hypervisor; and provides a high performance application environment without having to resort to complex kernel level development.

A subsidiary of Cavium Networks, MontaVista helps embedded developers get the most out of open source by adding commercial integration, hardware enablement, expert support, and the resources of the MontaVista development community.

Earlier last month, the company announced that MontaVista Linux Carrier Grade Edition (CGE) 6.0 is compliant with Linux Foundation's (News - Alert) Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) 5.0 specification.
