Conan Takes Part in Video to Stop Spread of Malaria

Conan O'Brien has just joined a group of celebrities whose current philanthropic actions are focused on ending the horrible, life- killing disease malaria that continues to spread.

A video currently circulating on the Web features many well-known A-list celebs including David Arquette, cast members from The Office, and comedians Sarah Silverman, Elizabeth Banks, and David Spade. Every time celebrities say something the public listens intently, and this video was made in order to raise awareness for Malaria No More, a non-profit group that is trying to end malaria deaths in Africa. By 2015, in certain areas within Africa a child will die from the disease every 45 seconds.

Malaria has continued to be a growing problem in impoverished nations where drinking water is often highly contaminated and there is no access to medical facilities. A horrifying fact regarding this disease is that it is completely curable.

However, in recent years it seems awareness of this disease has grown, as Bill Gates (News - Alert) has even thrown his hat in the mix making malaria a top priority in his foundation's annual letter.

This new video comes at the optimal time as today, April 25, is World Malaria Day. Many organizations are spearheading this project besides Malaria No More, including Roll Back Malaria, WorldMalariaDay.org, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the U.N.'s World Health Organization.

I am all for using technology to improve people’s lives around the world and to permanently end disease. The question behind this video is: will people take action due to the new information their favorite celebrity is explaining to them? I hope so.
