Netflix Fast Becoming Biggest Subscription Entertainment Service in the U.S.

The trend of people running away from pay-per-view movies and towards subscription services that offer a one-stop-shop for anything you may want to view, including recent shows and movies, is working wonders for Netflix. A huge advantage of this option is an instant library that offers constantly available video content which enables Netflix subscribers to have access to thousands of films and TV series at the tips of their fingers.

On Monday, Netflix will release its quarterly earnings report, and analysts are already predicting that the huge amount of users that have recently signed up-- totaling 3.7 million subscribers-- has increased the company’s user base up to roughly 23.7 million, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. Even if the actual numbers aren’t as astronomical as predicted, many insiders believe the company has gained enough momentum to boast the title of being the number one subscription entertainment business in the U.S.

“Following the torrid pace of subscriber growth since Netflix’s Watch Instantly service made its way onto game consoles, we expect subscriber growth to remain elevated,” Williams said.

As of right now, Comcast is the top subscription provider that offers multiple services including phone, cable and Internet, with 22.8 million video subscribers. Satellite radio service Sirius XM comes in at number two, with 20.2 million. It is expected that once the numbers are released, Netflix and Sirius XM will have to fight for that coveted number one spot while Comcast (News - Alert) will then come in at number three.

Something industry analysts need to look at before they can say for sure what Netflix’s future and the future of other subscription competitors will look like, is the amount of money it will take for the company to have the right to continually stream this just released content.
