Symantec Debuts Symantec Messaging Gateway 9.5

Offering anti-spam capabilities with personalized protection against unwanted e-mail, Symantec (News - Alert) has released Symantec Messaging Gateway (News - Alert) 9.5, powered by Brightmail.

The new offering delivers inbound and outbound messaging security, effective and accurate real-time anti spam and antivirus protection, advanced content filtering, data loss prevention, and optional email encryption, the company stated in a press release.

To better define acceptable inbound communications, organizations can now block more unwanted e-mail with new controls with Symantec Messaging Gateway. Symantec Messaging Gateway includes new handling for marketing email and newsletters as well as e-mails containing suspicious URLs, such as shortened URLs where the target has been obfuscated. Also, to increase effectiveness, Symantec continues to improve its anti-spam engine, the company stated in a press release.

“We help companies of all sizes maintain the integrity of their sensitive information. Symantec Messaging Gateway keeps unwanted email out while protecting an organization's outgoing communications,” stated Blake McConnell, senior director, Product Management, Symantec. “With the evolution in targeted attacks, such as advanced persistent threats, protecting proprietary business information is more important than ever.”

With Symantec Data Loss Prevention, Symantec Messaging Gateway extends its integration capabilities. To provide a robust messaging security and data loss prevention solution from one vendor, Symantec Messaging Gateway gives customers a simple add-on option for Symantec Data Loss Prevention in addition to the existing on-box integration. Also, to give customers the choice of deploying on-premise email encryption or Symantec Content Encryption, Symantec Messaging Gateway integrates with Symantec Messaging Encryption Gateway Edition.

In May 2008, the company announced the availability of “Symantec Online Fraud Protection,” a program that includes education and ongoing monitoring and management capabilities to protect large financial businesses and their customers from online fraud. The offering is designed to help businesses shield their customers from a variety of online threats, including phishing and pharming. Symantec Online Fraud Protection combines a variety of offerings based on customer need and leverages Symantec’s broad footprint and position as a leader in security.
