Stonesoft Releases New StoneGate Authentication Solution

Offering secure remote access to critical data and applications across the network, Stonesoft has announced the availability of its new StoneGate Authentication Solution.

With StoneGate SSL VPN customers can select their authentication method from over 20 different alternatives from Mobile ID to plain password. The most suitable method can be chosen for each resource separately.

StoneGate Authentication deploys a dynamic rather than static solution, which is unlike RSA (News - Alert) SecurID and similar solutions. Stonesoft’s software-based solution combines SSL VPN and authentication server capabilities with other deployed authentication methods that can be pushed to any remote device, instead of delivering a tangible token to mobile and remote users, the company stated in a press release.

“Many of today’s solutions for secure remote access were built on an antiquated architecture. Fifteen years ago, tokens made sense, but that is not the case today,” said Marco Rottigni, SSL VPN product manager at Stonesoft. “Mobile users need secure remote access anywhere, while IT needs a way to quickly and easily manage that access. The only way to accomplish that is by combining multiple authentication methods in a dynamic solution.”

Simplifying and centralizing network monitoring and management, the StoneGate Authentication solution includes the StoneGate Management Center. Network administrators can quickly identify any issues and drill down to critical log data through a single point of view. Lastly, it enables updates to be made to the solution as quickly as the ever-evolving network security threat landscape changes. For organizations that wish to improve or deploy secure remote access to the cloud, the StoneGate Authentication solution is ideal.

In December 2008, the company was placed in the Challengers quadrant in Gartner’s (News - Alert) Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Network Firewalls report. The enterprise firewall market is "one of the largest and most mature security markets. It is populated with mature vendors, and shortlists are fairly homogeneous among horizontal and vertical markets." Stonesoft’s strength lies in its ability to innovate and introduce new products, Gartner had stated.
