Reseller Anti-Counterfeit Policy Adopted by ASCDI Membership

An industry-wide program with priority for the safety and concerns of customers has been announced by the Association of Service and Computer Dealers or ASCDI. The influx of counterfeit equipment into the IT supply chain across the world will be prevented with this program.

A sweeping Anti-Counterfeit Policy has been adopted by members of the ASCDI at its annual meeting. The policy will help to eliminate, or mitigate the impact of, counterfeit IT goods. Encounters with counterfeit products will be identified, inspected, tested, reported and properly disposed of with the development of best practices and strategies. Equipment which is suspected or proven not to be authentic will be quarantined by all ASCDI members.

The anti-counterfeit plan has been developed by the ASCDI in collaboration with law enforcement, manufacturers and technology resellers for the last two years. All manufacturers are asked to work with the ASCDI to eradicate this problem. Currently the ASCDI has several large IT manufacturers as its members.

In a release, Joseph Marion, president of ASCDI said, “Whether it is new or previously owned equipment, resellers and manufacturers can and must be partners in the best interest of our customers.”

According to Neil Vill, ASCDI chairman and CEO of World Data Products Inc., the bar for counterfeit product detection and prevention is being raised by ASCDI. The commitment of ASCDI and its members to protect its customers and the IT community is signaled by the announcement of this comprehensive program.

The ASCDI Code of Ethics will be used by the ASCDI to enforce the anti-counterfeit policy. If a customer of ASCDI Member feels that they have not been treated fairly on a transaction, they can file a complaint with the ASCDI. The ASCDI Member could be expelled from ASCDI if found guilty of violating the ASCDI Code of Ethics.

The ASCDI is a global nonprofit organization. The organization was founded in 1981. Companies who provide technology business solutions, technical support and value-added services to the business community are members of the ASCDI. Customers are given access to the right kind of information, resources, top businesses and opportunities by the ASCDI.
