LG's G-Slate Tablet Powered by Atmel maXTouch Solution

The Atmel (News - Alert) maXTouch solution has been selected by LG Electronics Mobile, for its recently launched G-Slate 8.9-inch Android tablet touchscreen. An announcement in this regard has been made by the top company in microcontroller and touch technology solutions, Atmel Corporation. LG Electronics (News - Alert) Mobile is one of the largest handset manufacturers in the world.

G-Slate is a 4G tablet running on Honeycomb which is now available in the U.S,. through T-Mobile. Atmel's mXT1386 maXTouch solution and NVIDIA's (News - Alert) Tegra 2 1GHz processor are used to power G-Slate. An optimal touch experience including 10 simultaneous touches at one time is provided to G-Slate users, by the 8.9-inch WXGA display. Weighing only 620g, the new PC tablet comes with a 6,400 mAh battery and 5M pixel 3D camera.

Atmel maXTouch solutions provide one of the industries best multi-touch ,along with unlimited touch capability. These solutions also offer the lowest power consumption and fastest response times. The most sensitive touches with a fingernail, stylus and a user with gloves on hands can be detected with the solutions’ highest signal-to-noise ratio. Unintended touches including grip and palm rejection are rejected by these chipsets. Users are therefore provided an easy-to-use, intuitive and seamless touch experience. Enhanced gestures and faster response times are enabled by Atmel maXTouch chipsets. These chipsets also enable the highest touch performance for the best accuracy, linearity and repeatability.

In a release, Simon Ji, Ph.D., principal research engineer, LG Electronics said, "Since G-Slate PC tablet is LG Electronics Mobile's first entry into the tablet market, we wanted to ensure we chose the best touch technology on the market today – Atmel maXTouch solutions. By choosing Atmel maXTouch solutions, our consumers can experience a superior touchscreen experience including better responsiveness, battery life and true multi-touch capability on our 8.9-inch G-Slate tablet."

According to Jon Kiachian, senior director, touch marketing, Atmel, the fact that LG Electronics’ G-Slate tablet will be powered by Atmel’s maXTouch solution has been exciting for the organization. In a release, Kiachian said, "The selection of Atmel maXTouch for LG Electronics Mobiles' G-Slate is further testament that Atmel is a leading provider in the rapidly growing touch market for smartphones, tablets and other portable devices."
