Continuous Computing, a provider of integrated platform solutions that combine best-in-class ATCA platforms with globally renowned Trillium protocol software for the development of highly optimized, field-proven wireless and packet processing network infrastructure came up with the latest version of FlexTCA integrated platforms, which according to its maker would provide the bandwidth and throughput necessary to create high-end policy control and wireless security.
“Wire-speed” performance is critical for the effective performance of the DPI-based applications. In its press release, Continuous Computing (News - Alert) claimed that with its FlexTCA integrated platforms, network intelligence solutions such as Policy Charging and Enforcement Functions (PCEF) can perform at a speed exceeding 200Gbps and wireless core and security applications can achieve a maximum speed of 320Gbps.
According to this 20-year-old company, the new platform family has been designed to deliver the highest performance and greatest capacity of any AdvancedTCA (News - Alert) deep packet inspection (DPI) solution on the market. With its native 100GbE interfaces – dual 100GbE CXP with active/standby capability and the option to aggregate other interface types for maximum speed, the FlexTCA family seems to have set a new benchmark for mobile network packet processing platforms.
Today, IP based networks are experiencing extra ordinary overload as a result of converged voice, video and data traffic. Wireless operators are seeking advanced capabilities such as traffic shaping, Internet offload and security to address this challenge.
According to Continuous computing, complying with the latest 40G ATCA standards and combining best-in-class switch, packet processing and compute products, the new FlexTCA platform, delivers up to four times the processing density of previous generation ATCA offerings.
With its FlexTCA platform, Continuous Computing also introduced a significant advance in the price-for-performance ratio. The new platforms offer a price per bit savings of up to 75 percent and enable network equipment providers (NEPs) to quickly and cost-effectively produce the scalable DPI applications for monitoring and controlling their network traffic.
“Policy enforcement and monitoring have become critical elements of assuring performance in today’s bandwidth-constrained networks, and DPI is the key enabling technology. With the skyrocketing increase in network traffic from advanced, bandwidth-hungry content like converged voice and video, packet processing solutions need to be able to mirror the resulting massive increase in throughput requirements. With up to 320Gbps system capacity, FlexTCA is the right platform at the right time,” chief technology officer and co-founder of Continuous Computing Mike Coward explained in a statement.
Elsewhere, the company announced the introduction of FlowEngine, a deep packet inspection (DPI) software framework to enable network equipment providers (NEPs) to accelerate development and delivery of applications that make use of DPI.
Designed to save time and boost performance, FlowEngine combines best-in-class software components with Continuous Computing's load balancing and Trillium monitoring software with an extensive range of application intelligence software from Qosmos and packet processing software from 6WIND and Wind River (News
- Alert), the company claimed in a media release.
