Optelian Debuts Tunable XFPs, Expands Portfolio

Optelian, a designer and manufacturer of optical transport systems, has announced the availability of tunable XFPs that features a narrow spectral width and wavelength stability required for 80-channel DWDM systems.

According to the company, the innovative Tunability solution supports dynamic reconfigurability and it saves inventory cost. This exclusive feature in an XFP format enables existing muxponder, regenerator and transponder cards to be used in reconfigurable, high capacity optical networks. Tunable XFPs have comparable performance and reach as fixed DWDM XFPs. The company is displaying its new product Tunable XFPs at Optelian's (News - Alert) booth, #2400, at this week's OFC/NFOEC being held at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Also, the new Optelian's tunable XFP is fully compatible with all LightGAIN and LightMUX active modules as well as third party equipment.

Dave Mills (News - Alert), VP of sales at Optelial said that by having tunable XFPs, network operators have a great deal of flexibility for adding and managing a wide range of traffic types and implementing a wide range of architectures.

With more than 6000 systems and over 140,000 wavelengths installed, Optelian is known industry-wide for its exceptional product quality, speed of delivery, superior customer support and custom-design capabilities.

The company recently announced that the capability of automatic power balancing is now available for Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing, or “DWDM,” networks. This development will help in automatic power measurement and adjustment so that technicians won’t need to travel to every node in a network with optical spectrum analyzers, significantly reducing costs.
