By Charles WestFresh off its announcement of the iPad 2, Apple’s (News
- Alert) iPhone and iPad just got a major Twitter update that covers more than just simple bug fixes.
With the update the apps’ compose screen has gotten an overhaul to make it cleaner, and easier to upload photos and video. The even more intriguing part to this update is the enhancement of the Quick Bar (iPhone (News - Alert)-only) tool, which sits on top of your timeline and lets you cycle through trends, either across Twitter or in your specific location.
Other notable features include:
- A DM (direct message) view that looks more like an SMS exchange
- Auto completion of @usernames and hashtags
- The ability to find people to follow through your phone's contact list
In a comment about the new Twitter update, Rich Tehrani CEO of TMC (News - Alert), and fellow iPhone and iPad owner said, “The URL shortening feature alone makes this update extremely worthwhile for people who share lots of links and don’t want to have to manually shorten URLS or use a different app to share from.”
Apple CEO, Steve Jobs (News
- Alert) unveiled Apple’s new iPad 2 in San Francisco yesterday. This tablet comes on the heels of the incredibly successful iPad which was sold to more than 15 million people in 2010. The latest tablet will be available in just a few days on March 11.
"Today we're here to talk about Apple's third post-PC blockbuster product,” said Jobs, according to a live blog at engadget. “That's how we think about these things. We started with the iPod, and then we added the iPhone, and then the iPad. Every one has been a blockbuster."
