eRacks Unveils SANDYCORE Rackmount Server Featuring Intel's Sandy Bridge CPU

eRacks Open Source Systems, a company specializing in open source solutions and providing rackmount servers, announced that it has launched a new rackmount server, SANDYCORE, based on Intel's (News - Alert) newest Sandy Bridge CPU architecture.

Providing performance boosts for graphics and computational intensive applications, the new eRacks/SANDYCORE’s Sandy Bridge processor includes a new set of instructions known as Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX (News - Alert)), which is suitable for floating-point-intensive applications. This significantly improves the performance of applications designed to take advantage of it.

Currently available in either dual-core or quad-core flavors, the base models of SANDYCORE Sandy Bridge processor feature clock speeds as high as 3.4GHz and can be overclocked to 3.8GHz using Intel's Turbo Boost Technology.

Featuring widened data paths, increased register efficiency and use of parallel loads, the new server has been provided with onboard Dual Gigabit Ethernet Controllers for local area network (LAN) connectivity and onboard 8 Channel Realtek ALC892 for audio.

Built on Ubuntu Linux operating system, the SANDYCORE server measures chassis (2U) 19in.x17in.x3.5in.

Interested customers can choose from the online configuration or request their own combination of components for the new server. In addition, the default configuration for the new rackmount server includes Socket LGA1152; P67 Extreme6, 6 x SATA3, 6 x USB3.0, ATX motherboard; NVidia GTS250 (or other) card; 4x DDR3 DIMMs memory with maximum 32GB capacity; SATA3 hard drives; and more.

In January, eRacks announced the eRacks/FLAT affordable small form factor (SFF) system with no fans or other moving parts, in order to enable PCs that are virtually silent. This new SFF computer system utilizes open source and features small flat shape that makes it ideal for a wall-mounted computer, an information kiosk, or other specialized applications.
