3 Italy Trials Private Planet's Personal Cloud Computing Platform

Italian telecom service provider 3 Italy formed a strategic alliance with Private Planet, a provider of personal cloud computing platforms, and Bizdev & Strategy, an international business consulting firm.

The partnership focuses to trial the feasibility of personal cloud computing services for corporate internal use and potential subscriber services.

Mobile operator 3 Italy is planning to create a multi-platform, secure communication and collaboration applications to enable peer groups and workgroups to increase productivity and business agility. The Private Planet platform uses innovative cloud based services that enable users to create communities, share documents across mobile and desktop devices.

During the trial phase, 3 Italy will validate Private Planet-based services to commercially roll out to their subscriber base. The PrivatePlanet platform will be a likely route to develop a more valuable relationship with the operators’ customers.

The trial is critical for an operator as relationship between a service provider and a subscriber is more important than pure customer acquisition, company officials said.

“We are delighted to be working with 3 Italy in validating the concepts and capabilities of our cloud computing services based on the Private Planet personal cloud computer platform,” said Janko Mrsic-Flogel, CEO of Private Planet, in a statement.

For 3 Italy, this partnership may be a new step toward next generation services with potentially valuable new revenue streams in addition to securing increased customer loyalty.

“Technologies like Private Planet will change the way how professionals and individuals will interact with their digital world, from living rooms to places away from the home or the office,” said Francesco Iarlori, managing director of Bizdev & Strategy. “It is also exciting to see how personal Cloud services can transform the operator’s business.”

Private Planet is currently showcasing its personal cloud computing services at Mobile World Congress 2011 as part of the U.K .Technology presence at the event.
