Vyatta to Offer On-Demand Cloud Security for Carpathia's InstantOn Cloud Platform

Vyatta, a provider of software-based network operating systems portable to standard x86 hardware, announced that its Vyatta Network OS has been deployed by Carpathia Hosting, a provider of managed hosting services, to offer on-demand cloud security to customers utilizing Carpathia's InstantOn cloud platform.

Powered by Citrix XenServer, the Carpathia InstantOn is claimed to be the first cloud solution truly aimed at meeting the needs of enterprise computing for public clouds and private virtual datacenters, while delivering cloud solutions that are managed, flexible and scalable. With Carpathia InstantOn one can easily deploy custom compute and storage solutions, blending dedicated and cloud resources in a single solution.

Carpathia was looking for a per tenant virtual machine-based networking and security solution that included enterprise-grade firewall, VPN and intrusion prevention in order to enhance its service to cloud customers.

Some of the features that swung the Vyatta (News - Alert) Network OS to be Carpathia’s choice are: provisioning on-demand networking, enabling easy and quick auto-provisioning of cloud-based network security and hypervisor agnosticism – where cloud customers can evolve to their needs without having to worry of their solution’s compliancy with Vyatta.

Other features include open system API, where remote systems can push and pull data to the Vyatta Network OS for configuration, monitoring and reporting, as well as flexible licensing and pricing. The company also notes the ability to offer each customer with access to an enterprise class layer 2/3 networking solution that is optimized for cloud environments.
