Google Launches Android Market for the Web

Google, in an effortto make its applications more accessible, has just launched the Android Web store, which lets you find, purchase, and remotely install new Android apps onto your device, all straight from a browser.

This is a very shroud move by Google considering its rival Apple (News - Alert) just recently launched its own version called Mac App Store. Once you visit the app store, you will notice a series of categories sitting in the left-hand column of the page, while tabs to the right allow you to check out featured apps, as well as the most popular paid and free applications.

Much like its Android (News - Alert) Market on mobile devices, you will find an info page for a given app which contains the usual screenshots and user ratings, while users will also be able to recommend the app to friends, watch an embedded demo video (a feature sorely lacking in the Apple App Store, according to Ben Patterson of Yahoo News), or tweet their latest app discoveries.

What’s so neat about the app store is, once you hit install, the app will begin installing itself on your Android device, with no syncing required. To help organize your Android apps, a "My Devices" page in the Android Web store will let you name and manage your various Android apps.

This will be a dream for developers and users alike. Developers can now upload YouTube (News - Alert) videos and other promotional information to their application’s sales site, and users can browse and find apps much easier than they could in the past. You can check out the new, Web-based Android Market right here.
