HP CEO: WebOS Devices to Launch within Weeks

During the World Economic Forum, Hewlett-Packard (News - Alert) CEO Leo Apotheker spoke with the BBC, explaining the company’s future plans for webOS over the next two months. The HP CEO claims the gap between product announcements and launches will shrink substantially. He added, we should expect webOS devices to launch “within weeks” of next month’s event on February 9th.

HP will have another major announcement coming on March 14th, when the company will detail its “vision of what HP is capable of in the future.”

In related news, HP unveiled its latest shift in administration with the replacement of four members of its board of directors while adding an additional one. Members Joel Hyatt, John Joyce, Robert Ryan and Lucille Salhany are being replaced with Patricia Russo former CEO of Alcatel-Lucent (News - Alert), Shumeet Banerji, chief executive officer of Booz & Company; Gary Reiner, former CIO at GE, Dominique Senequier, CEO of AXA Private Equity; and Meg Whitman, former president and CEO of eBay (News - Alert) Inc.

Ray Lane, HP’s non-executive chairman of the board of directors stated, “The addition of these new directors will further diversify the outstanding talents and wide-ranging experience that our directors already bring to HP.” Additionally, he noted that all four of the retiring members “worked tirelessly and effectively to navigate HP through a difficult leadership change in the last six months.” At HP’s annual meeting next march, all five of the new directors will stand for re-election.
