Facebook Founder to Possibly Appear on "SNL"

While the verdict is still out as to whether the real Mark Zuckerberg will appear on tomorrow night’s “Saturday Night Live,” one thing is certain – his doppelganger and movie persona Jesse Eisenberg will be there.

Saturday night’s show will be hosted by Oscar-nominated Eisenberg, who played Zuckerberg in the box office hit “The Social Network.” And just as Zuckerberg was a no-show at the premiere of “The Social Network,” a film depicting how Zuckerberg launched the social media site Facebook (News - Alert), SNL viewers are taking bets as to whether Zuckerberg will show face tomorrow night.

But, according to a New York Post article, the real Zuckerberg may make a cameo to "show he has a sense of humor.”

Whether or not he has a sense of humor, the Facebook founder certainly has a sense of accomplishment. Last December, he was recognized as Time’s “Person of the Year” in 2010 and, at age 26, he was the youngest recipient to ever take home the accolade since the first person embraced the title in 1927.

More recently, Zuckerberg’s name has been making its way into conversations for the past few weeks since Facebook raised $1 billion from non-United States investors which, when combined with an infusion from Goldman Sachs and Russia's Digital Sky Technologies last December, brought its latest round of fund-raising to $1.5 billion.

Zuckerberg’s name has become buzz-worthy in office chatter as well as businesses are beginning to ask the question, ‘When will Facebook have an initial public offering (IPO)?’

The answer, according to many, is during the summer of 2012, according to the Associated Press (News - Alert). Zuckerberg, who conceptualized the idea of Facebook in his Harvard University dorm room one night, expects to have more than 500 shareholders at some point this year. That fact may propel Zuckerberg to lead the company’s IPO.

While Zuckerberg shows little sign of slowing down his billion dollar empire, questions about IPO and fund-raising efforts are being overshadowed by a more pressing question this week. Will Zuckerberg make a cameo tomorrow night on NBC’s live comedy show? Or will he prefer to sip appletinis in a neighboring bar and watch Eisenberg on a different screen, just as he did the night the “The Social Network” opened?
