Sky Television Selects Oracle to Reduce IT Complexity and Costs

Looking to reduce IT complexity and decrease operational costs, Sky Television has selected Oracle Database 11g and Oracle (News - Alert) Real Application Clusters. Oracle has announced in a press release.

Oracle Real Application Clusters (Oracle RAC), with Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition, enables a single database to run across a cluster of servers, providing unbeatable fault tolerance, performance and scalability with no application changes necessary.

To facilitate the automation and management of the consolidated Oracle technology environment, Sky TV is using Oracle Data Guard, Oracle Partitioning, Oracle Tuning and Oracle Diagnostics Packs, apart from Oracle Database 11g. Also, when it comes to proactive monitoring and to centralize database management, Sky TV also benefits from Oracle Enterprise Manager. By establishing the Oracle technology platform, Sky Television selected Oracle in November 2009 and has implemented the first phase of the project in the first quarter of 2010.

“We have been working with Sky’s IT team to ensure they reaped the maximum return on their Oracle investment by using key advanced capabilities of Oracle Database – Oracle Real Application Clusters, Oracle Enterprise Manager and Oracle Data Guard – to automate and consolidate while preserving high availability of data,” said John Eastman, sales director, technology, Oracle New Zealand in a press release.

Along with Asparona, a Platinum level member of Oracle PartnerNetwork, providing the training, the implementation was facilitated by Gold level member of Oracle PartnerNetwork (OPN), Enterprise IT. Sky TV can now reduce IT complexity and save money, and expect a return on this investment to be achieved in about 18 months, the company has stated in a press release.

In August 2010, HealthSouth selected Oracle Database 11g and Oracle Real Application Clusters to improve the availability and performance of its Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise applications and Enterprise Data Warehouse. HealthSouth's Oracle data warehouse gives visibility into key financial and operational metrics. The organization recently upgraded its Oracle PeopleSoft Enterprise applications and enterprise data warehouse in order to automate financial, budgeting and HR processes.
