Riverbed Steelhead Appliance Receives EMC E-Lab Qualification

Riverbed Technology, the IT performance company, revealed that the Riverbed Steelhead appliance has received EMC (News - Alert) E-Lab qualification for EMC RecoverPoint, the leading solution for intelligent network-based data protection and disaster recovery. EMC RecoverPoint endows enterprises with both local Continuous Data Protection (CDP) and Continuous Remote Replication (CRR) for easy resurgence from several prospective failures, thereby addressing their need for centralized and simplified disaster recovery requirements.

In a press release, Venugopal Pai, vice president of alliances at Riverbed (News - Alert), said, “Riverbed continues to work closely with EMC to ensure organizations are assured more reliable data protection that lowers the costs associated with back-up and replication while helping streamline IT operations. Qualification of Steelhead appliances with EMC RecoverPoint is an additional advantage for enterprises in overcoming the challenges of data protection throughout the distributed enterprise.”

Riverbed significantly improves WAN performance with its most comprehensive approach to application acceleration and disaster recovery. The recovery point and recovery time objectives (RPO/RTO) of enterprises improve considerably when combined with the Steelhead appliances, in spite of accelerating back-up, disaster recovery, replication and storage consolidation processes. It also aids in minimizing network costs by overcoming the performance constraints of the WAN such as high latency, congestion, limited bandwidth and packet loss.

George Tilmon, supervisor IT operations at G&T Conveyor Company Inc., the largest privately held turnkey baggage handling systems manufacturer in the United States, said, “The Riverbed Steelhead appliances combined with EMC RecoverPoint enables us to simplify our IT infrastructure and reduce our bandwidth costs associated with replicating over our WAN, ensuring that data is protected and business is never interrupted. This affords us the ability to improve DR performance while still accelerating file sharing and email to our distributed design teams without purchasing additional bandwidth.”

The EMC E-Lab qualification and the longstanding relationship between Riverbed and EMC would provide Riverbed and EMC customers with highly innovative solutions to enhance their data protection initiatives, in addition to removing redundant data from the wide area network (WAN) to accelerate DR processes while reducing overall IT costs.
