Spotify Now Accessible to Squeezebox Users

Spotify (News - Alert) has collaborated with Logitech so Spotify is accessible to users of Squeezebox Internet Radio, according to the company’s website.

Spotify said Squeezebox Touch and Squeezebox Radio use a wireless home network to stream music throughout a house. Squeezebox can expand by adding Squeezebox players in additional rooms in the house.

“The launch means that a computer will no longer be necessary to listen to the cloud-based music service,” according to a report from The Telegraph newspaper.

With the new Spotify application, users can have access to over 10 million songs, according to a Spotify blog posting.

The Spotify application will soon be available to Spotify premium subscribers via Logitech’s (News - Alert) MySqueezebox app site.

In the meantime, the company is offering consumers a beta version.

The release is an important step for Spotify. “Analysts and industry-watchers have consistently said that iTunes’s success has been driven in large part by its close integration with Apple’s (News - Alert) iPod hardware and that Spotify must adopt a similar approach if it is to see similar success,” said a report in The Telegraph.

Spotify was supposed to launch its product in the United States in 2010, but ended up delaying the release.

In other recent Logitech company news, TMCnet reports that Logitech has introduced Logitech Revue, a wireless speaker adapter. It was presented during the recent International Consumer Electronics Show, held in Las Vegas.

Logitech Revue streams audio from WiDi laptops to speakers, according to TMCnet.

In other recent Spotify news, Spotify is available for Shazam’s premium applications on the iPhone (News - Alert), iPod touch and Android. Shazam has a new “Play in Spotify.” It allows users to listen to a full track and search for other songs from the same performer.
