The Boston Globe and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, published by the New England Media Group are going to deploy Méthode, the enhanced editorial platform and content management system or developed by EidosMedia, a provider of next-generation knowledge-management and publishing systems for news and media organizations. The platform will be leveraged by the media group for production of its print and online products, which include the website Boston.com and a new website BostonGlobe.com, which is planned to be unveiled during the second half of 2011.
Using the EidosMedia’s Méthode platform, media and news groups are able to publish the editorial content via a number of channels ranging from print and Web to tablets, e-readers and syndicated distribution simultaneously. Additionally, the solution offers an effective knowledge resource management platform and workflow environment to the enterprises as well.
A part of the New York Times Company (News - Alert), the New England Media Group operates a number of media initiatives such as the Boston Globe, Boston.com, the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, and Telegram.com.
“The move to the Méthode platform is a key step in allowing the Globe to continue its mission of delivering high-quality journalism across multiple channels and platforms,” commented Wade Sendall, vice president of information technology at the Boston Globe. “Its integrated workflows will bring a new level of productivity to our newsroom operations.”
The Boston Globe has been aiming to launch two digital brands starting in the second half of 2011, and the new announcement will be helpful in propelling the initiative. Among these two digital brands, Boston.com, a one-stop source for all things Boston that will offer daily local news reports, sports, weather and comprehensive information about local entertainment, travel and restaurants, will be made available to the users free of cost. BostonGlobe.com, on the other hand, will be launched as a new subscription based website that will feature all the news and feature stories, commentary, analysis and photographs which are published in the daily and Sunday newspaper.
“The ability to deliver content through a multiple and growing number of output channels was a strategic requirement for the Globe and the New England Media Group,” said Steve Ball, marketing director for EidosMedia, Inc. “Throughout our discussions it became very clear that only a single product, rather than an assembly of disparate solutions, would be able to do this. We are delighted to provide that technology.”
In November 2010, Xtenit, a provider of Web, e-mail, and ad management services in the cloud, announced that Shelf Awareness, an online-only B2B publisher in the book trade sector, has re-launched its website using the Xtenit web content management system.
