More Businesses May Use Google Chrome Browser Given Improved Features

An increasing number of businesses may opt to use Google (News - Alert) Chrome web browser, given the latest improvements.

Chrome now features controls which allow IT departments to “easily configure and deploy the browser on Windows, Mac, and Linux, according to their business requirements,” according to a Google statement.

“We’ve created an MSI (News - Alert) installer that enables businesses who use standard deployment tools to install Chrome for all their managed users,” according to a recent blog post from Google’s Glenn Wilson, a company product manager, and Daniel Clifford, a software engineer.

“We’ve also added support for managed group policy with a list of policies and a set of templates that allow administrators to easily customize browser settings to manage security and privacy,” the blog adds.

Google explains that by using Google Chrome, businesses can get security improvements and better app performance without upgrading software or buying new hardware. Both of these can have high price tags.

Google Chrome also leads to better productivity through HTML5 web apps.

Support for new features is available to Google Apps for Business customers by phone and email. Those who need support info, and are not customers, can find documents posted online.

In the past few months, Google has tested Chrome with businesses and other organizations such as: Vanguard, Boise State University and Procter & Gamble. These entities have deployed Chrome to thousands of users, the company reports.

Google is now working on the new features that were recommended during the testing process.

In addition, during the last six months, according to PC Magazine, the number of Chrome web browser users has grown from 70 million to 120 million. Google says increased speed is what’s drawing many of the new users, and more are expected with even faster speeds coming thanks to new features, according to a report from TMCnet.
