Widespread Adoption of Cloud Storage Is Imminent

One of the biggest trends in the technology space today is the gradual adoption of cloud computing and cloud storage solutions, both on an enterprise and a consumer level. To gain a better understanding as to how cloud-based solutions will continue to change the market, TMC's (News - Alert) Erin Harrison recently sat down with Steve Lesem, CEO of Mezeo, a provider of deployable API-accessible cloud storage platforms. 

During their conversation, Lesem told Harrison that the cloud storage market will continue to flourish as the technology matures. He noted that the increased adoption of API-accessible cloud storage solutions was due to several factors, including its moderate cost, its pay-as-you-go pricing structure and its ability to deal with the latency of the Internet.

"Those were the important parts of phase one of cloud storage," said Lesem. "The important part of phase two is that people are now beginning to understand the programmability of API-accessible storage, so it's not just put a file, get a file. There are a whole series of API type rest commands that allow you to do what we call advanced functions or advanced commands."

Looking down the road, Lesem expects there to be a large demand for both public and private cloud solutions. Until enterprises are completely comfortable with the security of public clouds, they will continue to embrace private, single-tenant clouds that can be deployed inside their own firewall, Lesem noted. Mezeo's software works with both public and private clouds.

As for when enterprises will adopt cloud storage solutions on a widespread basis, Lesem believes that time is just around the corner.

"Everybody is interested, everybody is starting to figure it out," he said. "You've got to get it into their budget cycle, you’ve got to get them comfortable with it…and then they will adopt."
