Network Processor: Advantech to Supply DVB-S and DVB-S2 Demodulators for ASO Project

Advantech Wireless signed an agreement with TDF SAS (News - Alert), TowerCast and ITAS-Tim, which was brought into effect via Advantech’s local partners and distributor CVS Engineering. As per the agreement, Advantech Wireless will supply its SBD-75e combined DVB-S and DVB-S2 demodulators that will be applicable in the Analogue Switch Off (ASO) project across France, also known as the TNT network.

The ASO project, overseen by the French broadcasting regulator, the Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel (CSA), will help the country migrate towards a fully digital terrestrial television system by leveraging Advantech’s (News - Alert) equipment that will be used to extend the distribution network for supplying content to the terrestrial transmitter sites.

In a press release, Hugues Martinet and Jérôme Gressier at TowerCast, said, “Advantech Wireless has gone to great lengths to ensure the equipment meets our precise requirements, now and for the future. The Advantech Wireless solution delivers on every technical and commercial aspect that we could ask for.”

Due to its high performing product showing full technical compliance with the requirements, Advantech bagged this multi-million dollar project so as to deploy a feature-rich and flexible long term solution. Advantech has already started implementing the installation which is bound to be extended through to 2012. Equipment installation for a similar DTT UK based project is being carried out by Advantech Wireless.

In a statement, David Gelerman, CEO of Advantech, said, “The awarding of this contract proves once again that when head-to-head with our competitors, Advantech Wireless’ DVB-S2 technology is the proven market leader, providing cost effective solutions as well as leading edge technology on a flexible platform to meet the markets’ needs.”

HF Engineering, Construction, Operation and Maintenance of Broadcast sites are the services provided by ITAS TIM across France. As the operator of shared facilities and terrestrial networks in Europe, The TDF (News - Alert) Group assists television networks, radio stations, telecommunications operators, ISPs and local authorities over the entire value chain of audiovisual and telecoms networks. CVS has been Advantech’s local partner since 2007 and specializes in Broadcast Systems Design, distribution and Installation. Additionally, CVS has also assisted in developing the French DTT network amongst other projects.

By leveraging satellite and terrestrial wireless communications, Advantech Wireless manufactures and deploys networking solutions for broadband connectivity, broadcast solutions and backhaul requirements.
