Digi-Key Stocks Analog Devices' New Digital Isolator

Digi-Key Corporation, a provider of prototype or design and production quantities of electronic components, has begun stocking the ADuM347x four-channel digital isolator products by Analog Devices (News - Alert), Inc., a provider of data conversion and signal conditioning technology solutions and high-performance semiconductors for signal process applications.

Leveraging its 600,000 square foot facility located in Thief River Falls, Minnesota, USA, Digi-Key Corporation offers over 1.8 million products from more than 440 well known brand manufacturers, and projects its annual sales for the year 2010 to be around $1.5 billion.

Being said to be industry’s first digital isolator with an integrated transformer driver and pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller in a single package, the ADuM347x four-channel digital isolator series comprises of the ADuM3470, ADuM3471, ADuM3472, ADuM3473, and ADuM3474 products. Additionally, Digi-Key has also been stocking the EVAL-ADuM3471EBZ evaluation board, and has made all of these products now available for purchase through company’s websites.

By integrating the digital isolator, transformer driver, and PWM controller into a small 20-lead SSOP, Analog Devices has cut down the board space for the new four-channel digital isolator by around 30 percent, which also saves around 10 percent in the cost apart from simplifying the development of systems requiring isolated data and power.

Designers can now deploy an isolated DC-to-DC converter that provides up to 2 watts of regulated, isolated power at 3.3V to 30V from a 5.0V input supply or 3.3V supply. The product range will be especially helpful in applications that require isolated data and power, such as data acquisition, industrial process control using Fieldbus and building control.

With the introduction of these new devices, the iCoupler digital isolation portfolio of ADI also offers more solutions to the customers, including an extensive range of isolation technology solutions. Apart from allowing the designers to implement isolation in their designs without the cost, size and power constraints found with traditional isolation products such as optocouplers, the ADuM347x isolators also provide them with enhanced performance and reliability.

Recently this month, Digi-Key Corporation announced that it has stock of Cree's (News - Alert) LED Module LMR4 with Cree TrueWhite Technology and versions featuring Cree EasyWhite solutions. The Cree LED Module LMR4 uniquely integrates driver electronics, optics, and primary thermal management, making the compact module drop-in ready.
