Android Powered 10.1-inch Tablet Hits Retail Stores in Europe

According to a report in TECHDiGEST, the newest Android (News - Alert) power Internet tablet from Archos (www.archos.com) is ready for going on the shelves of retail stores in Western Europe. Labeled Archos 101, the 10.1 inch tablet with 1024 x 600 resolution display weighs 480 gm and is only 12 mm thick.

Lighter than Apple (News - Alert) tablet, the 10.1-inch capacitive multi-touch screen is comparable to Apple’s iPad, but at the fraction of the cost, said Archos. The Archos 101 is priced at $300 as compared to iPad’s $499 price tag (News - Alert). The tablet is powered by an ARM Cortex A8 CPU running at 1 GHz with DSP, and a 3D OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics accelerator. In addition, it offers a webcam, email and chat applications, as well as 8 or 16 GB flash memory.

The tablet also features an adjustable leg stand for viewing. And offers HD multimedia and 3D with music and video application, said the manufacturer. In fact, said Archos, it has developed four unique android applications for video, photo and music with the

support of 3D cover animations to allow to users to keep a digital experience as simple as it can be.   

Archos 101 comes with built-in connectivity options like HDMI connection (HDMI cable sold separately), a standard full-sized USB 2.0 port plus a USB host connector to directly transfer files without using a PC, and a Micro SD Slot (SDHC compatible), as well as WiFi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth 2.1 EDR.   Archos said that the tablet's battery life is up to 36 hours. Presently, shipping with Android 2.1 and is upgradeable to 2.2 by the end of this month, according to Archos. Many other versions of Android tablet are in the works.
