Thou Shalt Not Facebook

I read a lot when I was younger and early on I realized that faith in something is what is redeeming – and I mean that in the most literal sense. As long as you believe in something – anything at all -- then you have achieved some kind of understanding.

Power lies in faith.

That’s why I never understood the whole sensitivity over religion thing – I’ve done my best to ignore it my whole life.

I couldn’t care if you worship ducks driving cars or your neighbor’s fence. In fact, I’m happy for you.

There are plenty of horrible, horrible sins out there – do we really need to make up more?

As per the Associated Press, the pastor of the Living World Christian Fellowship Church in New Jersey declared that, merely in the last six months, 20 couples beneath his wing have fallen into marital woes because one or other partner friended a former paramour on Facebook (News - Alert).

Rev. Cedric Miller is quoted as saying, “The advice will go to the entire church. They'll hear what I'm asking of my church leadership. I won't mandate it for the entire congregation, but I hope people will follow my advice."

"The temptation is just too great," the Rev. Miller, who is married, told the AP. He is, indeed, closing his own Facebook account, which he used to communicate with his six children.

Let me say that I just find this whole scenario ridiculous.

It is my firm belief that people are a danger to other people – that they seek out and do harm where they will, regardless of religion, of faith, of temptation. Just because Facebook makes old flames and potential flings more accessible – doesn’t make it any more or less likely that an individual may fall into darkness.

The poor Reverend has found himself in the middle of a media frenzy as a result of his statements – and it should be interesting to see what comes of it.

Perosonally, I say…. let thou who shalt peruse Facebook doeth so in peace – and let those who shalt not do so as well.

In other words, let well enough alone.
