L-com's New ALW Solves Lightning and Surge-Related Issues

L-com (News - Alert), a manufacturer of wired and wireless connectivity products, now offers a lightning and surge protector featuring an industrial-grade die cast aluminum enclosure with a gasketed cover and concealed mounting holes. This "ALW" series is designed for the harshest of environments.

"L-com's lightning and surge protection product offering was already quite extensive," said Ken Burgner, product manager for lightning protectors, in a press release, "but until now we had very limited industrial solutions. The new ALW solves lightning and surge-related issues in environments where surge protectors cannot normally help."

L-com currently offers eight models in the ALW series but plans to add more models by year's end including its new 4 to 20 mA current loop protectors. The current offering includes:

     ALW-CAT5HPJ - CAT5 Protector - Shielded RJ45 Jacks

    ALW-CAT5EJ - CAT5E Protector - Shielded RJ45 Jacks

    ALW-CAT5EP - CAT5E Protector - Punch Down Terminals

    ALW-CAT6HPJ - CAT6 Protector - Shielded RJ45 Jacks

    ALW-D2-05 - RS-422/485 Protector - Screw Terminals

    ALW-D2-12 - RS-232 Protector - Screw Terminals

    ALW-DSLJ - Telephone/DSL - RJ11 Jacks

    ALW-DSLS - Telephone/DSL - Screw Terminals

Lightning and surge protectors are designed to protect sensitive wired and wireless systems from the damage that can result from lightning strikes and power surges. Surge protector attempts to regulate the voltage supplied to an electric device by either blocking or by shorting to ground voltages above a safe threshold. Sometimes power strips that do not provide surge protection are erroneously referred to as surge protectors

L-com, a global leader in the manufacture of wired and wireless connectivity products, offers a wide range of solutions and unmatched customer service for the electronics and data communications industries. The company's product portfolio includes cable assemblies, connectors, adapters, computer networking components, and custom products, as well as their Hyperlink line of wireless products which include Antennas, RF Amplifiers, Coaxial lightning and surge protectors, and NEMA rated enclosures. L-com's HyperLink wireless products are designed for WiFi (News - Alert), WiMAX, SCADA, 802.11a/b/g/n, RFID and Bluetooth applications.
