Userful Corporation Releases Beta Version of Userful MultiSeat Linux 2011

As the global leader in Linux desktop virtualization, Userful Corporation recently released the Beta version of its Linux alternative to Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows MultiPoint Server 2010, Userful MultiSeat Linux 2011. Using the software, one Linux station can be transformed into ten high performance independent computer stations and comes loaded with the same features offered by Microsoft Windows MultiPoint Server 2010 as well as extra features. The software also includes hundreds of free applications as well as suite of tools for managing classroom computer.

In comparison to Microsoft Windows MultiPoint Server 2010, MultiSeat is available at a low cost of $59 without the need for server licensing costs and also provides higher video performances. Schools can leverage the unique solution to cost-effectively deploy large number of computer stations using an easy to setup, and use and maintain procedure. Userful MultiSeat reduces hardware costs by up to 80 percent because of reduced infrastructure requirement along with 90 percent reduced energy cost.

As compared to previous PC-per-station solutions, Userful's education customers report saving 60 percent in up-front costs, and 80 percent in annual power savings thus giving rise to nationwide as well as global deployment of the solution across 30,000 schools. Additionally, each individual student can make use of the software to control his/her stations and applications although the underlying model includes sharing of resources from a single host computer.

The software can be installed by simply plugging USB MultiSeat devices into the host PC with the addition of monitor, keyboard as well as mouse. Based on the free Linux operating system, Userful MultiSeat includes end-user and education-specific applications, such as: Edubuntu OS, iTALC classroom computer management tool, OpenOffice.org office suite, Firefox web browser, and applications for subjects including astronomy, chemistry, languages, mathematics, planning etc.

Teachers can leverage the included classroom computer management software to efficiently manage and monitor computer stations. Additionally, teachers can watch over the students as well as communicate using SMS, share resources between sibling, verify students accounts/change passwords, as well as add a new application to all computer stations by installing it only once on the host computer, among other control features.
