Mellanox, Beijing Computing to Build Public Cloud Computing Center

Mellanox Technologies Ltd., a supplier of end-to-end connectivity solutions for data center servers and storage systems, and the Beijing Computing Center announced a joint cooperative agreement for building the Beijing Public Cloud Computing Center.

According to official sources this joint cloud computing laboratory will serve to further enhance China’s cloud computing technology efforts. The 40Gbps InfiniBand-accelerated Beijing Public Cloud Computing Center is expected to provide China’s academic and commercial researchers with greater access to an optimized computing cloud for their multiple scientific applications.

By leveraging the Beijing Public Cloud Computing Center, Mellanox (News - Alert) and the Beijing Computing Center will collaborate on various research areas that serve the research efforts of both members within the cloud computing field.

It was revealed that the main research areas of interest include Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (Paas) and other usage models of cloud computing for high-performance applications. The research areas also encompass network security solutions, scalability and efficiency for cloud computing delivery.

In a release, John Monson, vice president of marketing at Mellanox Technologies, said, “We are pleased to partner with BCC (News - Alert) to provide this industry-leading application performance to China’s large pool of academic and commercial researchers.”

“By integrating Mellanox 40Gb/s InfiniBand interconnects, the Beijing Public Cloud Computing Center can deliver on-demand high-performance cluster access and have a scalable infrastructure for future research in cloud computing,” Monson added.

Dr. Wei Xie, president of the Beijing Computing Center said that the Beijing Public Cloud Computing Center, will be able to provide accessible research computing services and technology to several academic and research organizations in China.

“Incorporating Mellanox 40Gbps InfiniBand is critical to providing China’s research community with leading application performance to enhance and accelerate a wide-range of their research,” Xie added.

Mellanox’s end-to-end InfiniBand connectivity comprises of the ConnectX-2 line of I/O adapter products, gateways, cables and comprehensive IS5000 family of fixed and modular switches. It is capable of delivering optimum bandwidth, efficiency, reliability and scalability.
