By Calvin AzuriPanasonic and Sony developed a new HD format for camcorders. The format has been named Audio and Video Compression for High Definition also known as AVCHD. The format is being used by Panasonic (News - Alert) and Sony in their consumer camcorders. The MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 video compression codec is used to record 1080i*1 and 720p*2 signals onto certain media. On camcorders, the file extensions are mts. When the files are imported to computer, the file extension becomes m2ts.
Mac users can now convert AVCHD files from popular camcorders with the help of AVCHD Converter for Mac. The camcorders supported by the software include Sony AVCHD, Canon AVCHD, Panasonic AVCHD, and JVC AVCHD, etc.
The easiest way to convert is brought about by AVCHD Converter for Mac. The .MTS (News - Alert) or .M2TS video files from the camcorders can be converted into Mac compatible formats. These include MOV, MP4, M4V, MPEG, DV, 3GP for playback on QuickTime. AVCHD can also be converted into other file types. These include AVI, WMV, ASF, MKV, FLV and SWF. Audio tracks can also be extracted from AVCHD with the AVCHD converter for Mac. These tracks can be saved as MP3, WAV (News - Alert), M4A, WMA, MP2, AAC, AC3, MKA, AMR, FLAC, etc.
The AVCHD video for Mac OS can be converted in four simple steps. Mac AVCHD Video Converter first needs to be downloaded and installed. After the installation process has been completed, the user needs to launch the software. The user then needs to load AVCHD video files. One or multiple AVCHD files with .m2ts or .mts extensions can be added. The loaded videos can then be previewed by clicking the play button.
After the files have been loaded, the user needs to select the required output video format. The output destination to store the new movies also needs to be specified. After the output destination and format have been defined, the conversion of AVCHD video files can begin by clicking the “Start” button. After the conversion has taken place, the user can find the final converted video at the specified destination. The destination folder can also be accessed by clicking the “Open” button.
