MetaVis Technologies, a provider of packaged software solutions that help in organizing SharePoint environments for improved search, findability and e-discovery, announced MetaVis Cloud Classifier for SharePoint 2010.
Using MetaVis Cloud Classifier, SharePoint 2010 users can tag (News - Alert) and classify multiple items directly from the SharePoint user interface.
Through direct integration into the SharePoint Web Interface, cloud Classifier appears seamlessly in the SharePoint ribbon. Users are given more control to add the appropriate metadata to documents extending the value of SharePoint search and improving the user experience.
According to company officials, SharePoint 2010 provides tagging and classification technology but is limited to individual items. This makes classifying multiple documents time consuming and tedious.
With MetaVis Cloud Classifier users can select multiple documents from SharePoint sites, libraries, lists or search results and classify in bulk.
Templates can also be created to help in classifying the content for specific projects or activities. This further simplifies the process. Content becomes more findable and accessible by making classification easy for the user.
MetaVis Cloud Classifier is a SharePoint 2010 feature and once it is activated, any user can access it directly from the toolbar.
Mark Klinchin, CTO of MetaVis Technologies, said, “By extending our SharePoint classification solutions to the users via the SharePoint 2010 Web interface, we are able to provide instant access to SharePoint classification technology from anywhere.”
Cloud Classifier not only allows users to basic tagging but also changes content types for multiple selected documents and specifies field values. It re-maps fields to copy metadata values from one field to another.
MetaVis Cloud Classifier for SharePoint 2010 also allows users to enter values directly or select them from standard SharePoint columns including Managed Metadata Fields linked to Term Sets and perform metadata enhancement and data classification in SharePoint sites.
Klinchin said, “At MetaVis, we are committed to helping SharePoint users organize their content through migration, classification and information architecture technology.”
According to Klinchin, Cloud Classifier continues this tradition by giving users more control and allowing them to tag items for improved search and organization.
By offering reusable taxonomies, metadata management and migration software and services, MetaVis takes the difficulty out of designing, deploying and managing content within SharePoint, company officials said.
In August MetaVis announced support for SharePoint 2010 Term Stores and Document Sets, TMCnet reported.
