Mellanox's ConnectX-2 Adapter Silicon Integrated with HP ProLiant Servers

The ConnectX-2 adapter silicon with Virtual Protocol Interconnect (VPI) technology will be integrated on HP ProLiant Servers. HP ProLiant SL390 G7 server and HP ProLiant BL2x220 G7 server blade are the two servers on which the interconnect adapter will be embedded. An announcement in this regard has been made by Mellanox (News - Alert) Technologies, Ltd.

The top bandwidth in the industry is provided by Mellanox’s ConnectX-2 VPI adapter. The adapter provides latency performance over 40 Gbps InfiniBand and 10 GbE. Apart from delivering unmatched clustering, the adapter also provides GPU-based computing, and I/O virtualization performance.

In a release, John Monson, VP of marketing at Mellanox, said, “From high-performance computing, virtualized and cloud data centers to high-frequency trading in financial services markets, choosing the optimal fabric for your data center can be challenging. By delivering Mellanox InfiniBand and Ethernet fabric selection flexibility on the motherboard, HP is providing its customers with a single, optimized solution for a wide range of performance-demanding applications and networking needs.”

Connectible with either 40 Gbps InfiniBand or 10 GbE networks, Mellanox ConnectX-2 VPI adapter silicon is suited to a variety of business and clustering applications. High server productivity is enabled with the 1us application latency of ConnectX-2’s 40 Gbps InfiniBand connectivity. CORE-Direct and GPU efficiency enhancements support application and communication offloads. This is done via NVIDIA (News - Alert) GPUDirect.

A top Ethernet-based latency in the industry of 1.3us is delivered with ConnectX-2’s 10 GbE connectivity. Industry-standard RDMA over Converged Ethernet is also supported. Servers are able to boot from remote InfiniBand or LAN storage targets with FlexBoot. IT managers are therefore able to easily deploy infrastructure that meets the challenges of a dynamic data center. Dedicated adapter resources, isolation and protection for virtual machines within the server are provided by ConnectX-2 with Virtual Intelligent Queuing technology

Madhu Matta, VP and general manager of Industry Standard Servers Service Provider and High-Performance Computing Business at HP, said, “Clients require high-performance servers capable of supporting business-critical applications and network-intensive workloads to gain a competitive business advantage. With Mellanox ConnectX-2 VPI technology, HP’s new ProLiant SL390 G7 server and ProLiant BL2x220 G7 server blade provides multiple connectivity options on the same server I/O ports to maximize performance.”
