A number of companies offer cloud-based storage, but not everyone is familiar with the concept or what it means to offer it on the enterprise level. To get a better handle on this area of technology, TMCnet’s Rich Tehrani (News - Alert) talked with Jeff Treuhaft, CEO of Zetta in an interview that was captured on video.

Zetta is a cloud storage provider focused on the enterprise storage needs of the IT person. The company has been around since 2007 and has been up and running fully since 2008. Companies view Zetta as a better way to protect their data and Zetta is communicating its value proposition through webinars and blog series within the enterprise community.

According to Treuhaft, there are many companies that are calling themselves cloud-storage, but few can actually provide cloud storage on the enterprise level. Zetta focuses on providing storage solutions that look and behave just like on-premise solutions.

When asked about international growth, Treuhaft said, “We have had customers trying to use the service outside of the U.S. and they have been successful. This is not a focus for us, though. We are seeing an explosion of growth inside our customer base of 6 percent week over week.”

Treuhaft went on to note that that Zetta has seen current customer and new customer growth on the amount of data they are storing. The company is paid by the amount of storage used, so as companies are storing more data, they are enjoying an expanding share of the storage market.

As for future plans, he highlighted that one of the things that Zetta just launched is replication; customers can chose to replicate their data from one coast to another so they can get out of deploying onsite hardware. This option is also helping to fuel growth in an area of increasing demand.
