Customers' Fears of Deleting Business Information Eased by Symantec

The availability of Symantec Enterprise Vault 9.0 and Enterprise Vault Discovery Collector technology has been announced by Symantec Corp. (News - Alert) Organizations will now be able to store, manage and discover information across the enterprise with this technology.

Emails from Microsoft (News - Alert) Exchange Online are combined by Enterprise Vault 9.0 with on-premise archived content sources into a central repository. Organizations can therefore centrally manage e-discovery and support internal investigations, thereby reducing costs. Content source support is expanded by Enterprise Vault 9.0. Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 SP1, Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and Domino 8.5.1 are now included.

Organizations are able to easily discover unmanaged information with Enterprise Vault Discovery Collector. Organizations are able to delete confidently and discover efficiently with Enterprise Vault 9.0 and Enterprise Vault Discovery Collector from Symantec. The information is protected completely for the organizations. Redundant data is eliminated by deduplicating everywhere.

Information Management Health Check Survey was carried out by Symantec in 2010. 90 percent of the enterprises felt that if a proper information retention strategy is implemented, enterprises could delete unnecessary information. However a formal retention plan was not in place for more than half of the enterprises.

The need to store information indefinitely was felt by the companies. The information may be important to business or might be needed in the future, preventing the companies from deleting the information. With information accumulating over the years, the costs of storing and searching for that information rise.

In a release, Brian Dye, VP, product management, Information Management Group, Symantec said, "Archiving is the foundation of a comprehensive information management strategy and allows organizations to delete confidently. Enterprise Vault 9.0 and the new Enterprise Vault Discovery Collector enable IT and legal departments to jointly develop and enforce retention policies, closing the gap between technology and policy to reduce risk."

According to Matt Kesner, CIO, Fenwick & West, with the archiving and e-discovery software, Symantec is moving in the right direction. Top e-discovery challenges are addressed by the latest Discovery Collector solution. Kesner added that the company is able to archive Microsoft Exchange with Enterprise Vault. The company saves time and costs significantly as they have moved half of the emails to Enterprise Vault for long term storage.
