By Mini SwamyEaton (News - Alert) Corporation is a diversified power management company, and it provides customer-driven PowerChain Management solutions to serve the power system needs of the data center and others. Already associated with IBM's (News - Alert) project Big Green, Eaton is currently providing power management support for IBM's Enterprise Modular Data Center, EMDC in short.
The EMDC enables global enterprises to bring new data centers online three to six months sooner than a custom designed version. And also by deploying energy-efficient, standardized data centers, enables executives to quickly respond to rising energy costs and increased capacity demands across global enterprises.
Eaton's power quality and power distribution components integrate seamlessly with EMDCs.
Patrick Giangrosso, Eaton's global account director for IBM said that Eaton had been working with project Big Green for several years and had considerably contributed to increasing operational efficiency at the data center with its unique and customized power distribution and enterprise software solutions.
Giangrosso added that Eaton's products in the EMDC helped customers to scale with increased business requirements, maintained uptime and ensured reliability of operations.
In combination with Eaton's energy Saver system, Eaton's UPS offers an ideal power protection solution for the EMDC. With a low weight, small footprint, 99 percent efficiency, Eaton's products have helped EMDC to achieve leadership in energy ratings, as determined by the global consortium in energy efficiency, “The Green Grid (News - Alert).”
Steve Sams, IBM vice president, Global Site and Facilities Services said that IBM was working with Eaton to address the ever-changing requirements of large enterprise clients, and EMDC was testimony to the IBM's ability to lead data center innovation in a flexible manner.
EMDC is a large data center design concept which uses pre-engineered design strategies allowing customers to meet unpredictable business and IT demands.
These modular data centers are designed to make it cheaper and quicker for customers to expand their data center space, saving money through energy efficient equipment. The biggest benefit that customers derive is the ability to phase expand according to their capital and computing needs.
In 2007, IBM launched Project Big Green and committed $1B per year to deliver technologies that help clients dramatically increase the level of energy efficiency in their data centers, and Eaton came into the picture during the second phase of the project - IBM's Portable Modular Data Center, which was introduced in 2009.
Eaton Corporation (News - Alert) is a diversified power management company with 2009 sales of $11.9B, and Eaton is a global technology leader in electrical components and systems for power quality, distribution and control.
In a related news release, diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced the formation of an alliance to accelerate the deployment of electric vehicles in cities across China.
