Accenture Recognized as Telecom Software Management Systems Leader

Independent analyst firm Gartner (News - Alert), Inc. has recognized Accenture as a worldwide market share leader as reported in its “Telecommunications Software Management Systems” market share study. The study ranks the top 50 telecom operations management system vendors worldwide.

The Gartner report ranked New York-based Accenture (News - Alert) as first in market share for online care and self-service (13.6 percent), next generation service delivery platform (6.9 percent) – reportedly the second year in a row that Accenture was ranked first in next generation SDP – and data processing and hosting (21.9 percent).

Accenture reported 2008 net revenues of $23 billion for the fiscal year ended Aug. 31, 2008.

In an interview with TMCnet, Angelo Morelli, an executive director at Accenture, who is responsible for the company’s offerings and work involving new product development and innovation, said communications players who want to stand out must focus on fundamental capabilities.

“In the telecommunications and media industry, there must be innovation, if companies plan to succeed in their markets in the coming years. In fact, we are seeing a number of players achieving unpredictable success in areas such as music, video, or social networking, because these companies provide offerings that simply ‘do things differently,’ and provide a better user experience,” Morelli told TMCnet.

“The pervasiveness of IP – which provides connectivity at home, on the go, or in automobiles – and the increased power of connected devices, in terms of screen, capacity, and speed, are making these new offerings possible, and we can expect to see this trend continue, and accelerate, over the next several years,” he continued. “Communications players who want to catch up and excel must focus on fundamental capabilities that are key to innovation. These capabilities are open development, speed to market and reasonable costs.”

SDP, which delivers a common way to create, provision, and execute multiple service types across different types of networks, and data center operations processing and hosting, are also key technology consulting capabilities that Accenture provides, he said.

“At Accenture, we are focused on enabling our clients on every dimension, leveraging our broad organization and the SDP architecture that enables open development, speed to market, and reasonable costs,” Morelli said. “We also offer our SDP as a managed service, further reducing the initial barrier of upfront investment for companies that are launching new, innovative solutions.”
