The cloud computing market is changing, rapidly growing in adoption as companies of all shapes and sizes are embracing the opportunities that cloud has to offer. To get an idea of what role Compuware (News - Alert) plays in this industry, TMCnet’s Erin Harrison sat down with Mark Hillman, VP of Strategy and Product Management at Compuware.

Hillman readily highlighted that last year the event featured attendees with a lot of questions about what cloud is; this year there have been a lot of questions about how exactly to do use the cloud and what concerns or problems the company needs to solve. Over the last year, the market has moved at a shocking pace, which is very encouraging.

When asked if there is less apprehension this year, “No doubt. Last year was all fear and dread,” Hillman said. “Now it’s ‘I’m implementing, what do I need to do?’” Clearly the market has transitioned into how to execute things instead of fear side of things.

To help customers be successful, Compuware has them think about what moves across the cloud and the apps moving across the web affect top line, market share, brand, customers, etc. The transition from inside to outside changes the game for IT as they lose control.

It is all about visibility and Compuware helps with visibility. Mass global network and measure a billion networks a month and put the information together to understand what is going on. Want to make the visibility piece available for cloud can be easily managed.

There are still a lot of questions among customers and Compuware has announced a free online community to reveal the facts about the cloud. Users can gain real-time information on the performance of the cloud suppliers. Cloud Sleuth.net offers solutions and capabilities that will solve problems and enable users to make decisions on this info.

Looking ahead to 2011, Hillman noted that everyone is talking about the global recession; yet he believes we are about the hit a huge turn. If you look at the trends on the consumer side, enterprises will be under pressure to apply such solutions on the inside to respond better to consumer demand. Hillman expects a big uptick in spending on enterprise IT.
