PDF OCR Simplifies Conversion of PDF documents to Editable Text

Using Optical Character Recognition, Adobe PDF documents can now be converted into editable text. PDFOCR.net has announced the release of PDF OCR 3.0, a new application, which performs instant recognition of characters and converts it to text without the need for typing.

PDFOCR.net delivers support for 10 languages. Its super fast OCR engine is about 90 percent faster than any other similar algorithm. This is particularly useful for dealing with PDFs that were created via a Scan-to-PDF function in a scanner or photo copier.

If a document is created from a scanned image, then the content of a PDF document cannot be copied. In order to overcome this hurdle, users retype the required information to a new document. This is a time consuming process and one that requires a lot of effort. Now, with PDF OCR, the process is so simple, that it just takes three clicks of the mouse to convert PDF files into editable text.

Converting PDF documents into editable text is quick and automatic. When the program is first run, an interface opens. The document that is to be converted is uploaded into the  program and the OCR is run. A dialog box, which offers several OCR modes opens. The user selects one, and presses START. All words in the document are recognized easily, and the editable text document is ready. PDF OCR can convert approximately 10 pages in 45 seconds.

The extracted text now appears in the text editor, and the source document appears in another window. Both are displayed next to each other, allowing comparison and checking to be done simultaneously. If the image file is from a laser printed copy, and has been properly scanned, then the OCR accuracy is amazing. If not, some incorrect words may appear because of incorrect recognition. Changes can be made, and saved in the same way that it is done in Notepad.

Adobe PDF documents are recognized by the program in 10 most popular languages, including English, German, French, Spanish and Italian. It appears that future releases will include more languages. PDF OCR runs under Microsoft (News - Alert) Windows ME/2000/XP/2003/Vista/7. The program is 100 per cent freeware.
