Light Blue Optics Intros Light Touch Interactive Projector

Light Blue Optics, a developer and supplier of miniature projection systems, has announced that its newly unveiled Light Touch interactive projector can turn any flat surface into a touchscreen interface.

Light Blue Optics said its new Light Touch projector makes use of Holographic Laser Projection or HLP, an innovative display technology. The technology, in turn, makes use of holographic algorithms to transform the images users want to project into diffraction patterns, which are shown on a tiny micro-display.

When laser light illuminates the micro display, the projected image is formed by diffraction. This new technology helps integrate infrared sensing technology, creating the interactive projector that transforms the flat surface into the touchscreen.

The company said its Light Touch will be made available to Light Blue Optics’ OEM customers and other strategic partners. The objective of the new projector is to not only free multimedia content from the confines of a small screen but also help users to interact with the projected content as they would on their handheld’s touchscreen.

Because Light Touch includes an infra-red touch sensing system that transforms the projected image into a virtual 10-inch touchscreen, the user can control the projector and interact with multimedia content and applications simply by touching the projected image. It runs on Adobe Flash Lite 3.1 making it easier for developers to make new innovative apps for the device.

It is equipped with WiFi (News - Alert) and Bluetooth connectivity for running apps that connect to internet such as social networking, multimedia sharing and electronic point of sale. The onboard Flash memory size is 2 GB and the Micro SD card slot can support cards up to 32 GB.

Company officials said they believe that today’s consumer is no longer a passive viewer of multimedia content. People expect to engage, interact and share content and their first product enables them to do that in new and exciting ways.

The opportunities for Light Touch extend beyond consumer electronics into retail spaces, the workplace and the home -- changing the way people interact with multimedia content and the built environment.
