Telvent has won the designation of being the first vendor to participate in a supervisory control and data acquisition, or “SCADA,” testing project. This project is dedicated to the cause of ensuring IT security and infrastructure protection in multi-vendor environments.
Telvent's SCADA system will be used for the Department of Homeland Security's, or
“DHS,” new Multi-Vendor Assessment, or “MVA,” project. These efforts are expected to produce best practices and security guidance for asset owners who want to deploy and integrate next-generation critical infrastructure control systems.
DHS’ Control Systems Security Program, or “CSSP,” reduces control system risks within and across all critical infrastructure sectors. The program involves coordination among federal, state, local, and tribal governments, as well as control systems owners, operators and vendors.
By supporting DHS' Control Systems Security Program's mission, Televent will lower the risks associated with control systems that regulate water, gas, oil and electric networks in the nation.
Telvent is a global IT solutions and business information services provider that improves the efficiency and reliability of the organizations.
“Telvent is proud of our long-standing cooperative relationship with DHS programs,” Manuel Sanchez, Telvent's chairman and CEO, said. “Our established reputation for flexible integration is backed by a reputation for product security. We are committed to ensuring
OASyS users, along with the entire critical infrastructure community, have the strongest security possible.”
OASYS is an IT solutions provider and value added reseller focused on network and applications management systems and next generation network improvement solutions.
The MVA project will attempt to identify vulnerabilities and risks created by the integration of technologies and platforms from different vendors. This initiative includes operating a simulated pipeline to accurately model and explore several real-world processes that occur within critical infrastructure.
The test results will accurately depict the interdependencies of industrial control systems components and processes. The findings from this test will thus help DHS to identify and recommend more secure implementation strategies.
