Threshold Corp. Powers Energy-Monitoring Systems with RMI Corp.'s Processors

Petaluma, California-based hardware and software technologies provider Threshold Corporation reportedly has collaborated with Cupertino, California-based semiconductor company RMI Corporation, in order to power its real-time energy-monitoring systems with RMI’s Au1250 series of Ultra Low Power Processors.

In addition, Threshold will be porting its energy monitoring software suite to RMI’s Ultra Low Power Application Developers Kit, or “ADK.”

According to RMI Corporation, its Au1250 Ultra Low Power Processor (News - Alert) is capable of delivering high processing performance of up to 600MHz and also consumes less than 500mW of chip power when processing D1 video decoding of a wide variety of media formats such as MPEG1/2/4, WMV, Divx, Xvid and H.264.

Based on these power-optimized RMI Au1250 series of connected processors, RMI’s ADK are low-power modules that provide original equipment manufacturers, or “OEMs,” and original design manufacturers, or “ODMs,” with a high performance, Linux based platform - for rapid development of compelling enterprise, media-rich and industrial applications.

According to Mike Wodopian, vice president and general manager at RMI Corporation, the RMI Application Developers Kit (ADK) is a powerful platform for the development of compelling applications that deliver a rich user experience by leveraging Au1250 processors.

Apart from offering flexibility and coast-effective tools necessary to develop and deliver a complete high-performance, connected system, RMI’s ADK development platform has facilitated Threshold to accelerate its time to market for its Au1250-based devices, which is planned to be unveiled in early 2010.

Officials at Threshold said that the company’s energy-monitoring products that are powered by RMI’s processors offers users with the intelligence to monitor, manage and minimize energy consumption in the digital home. These energy-monitoring systems will be available in October.

James Martin, chief executive officer at Threshold Corporation, said that RMI’s ADK operates seamlessly with Threshold’s smart home platform, which provides an extremely powerful and easy consumer experience for applications such as energy management, home automation, security and monitoring with convenient consumer user interface.

In addition, RMI has plans to include Threshold’s patent pending energy management solutions as well as BlueSpot auto-configuration technology as system options, in order to expand the growing list of applications on the RMI ADK.
