Occam Networks Announces New VDSL2 Blade with Greater Port Density

Occam Networks, a provider of broadband access solutions, announced the latest blade in its BLC 6000 platform offering higher port density and less energy consumption in a compact form factor.

Occam offers multiservice access platform solutions based on pure packet technologies. These solutions empower service providers to offer profitable new voice, data and video services over copper and fiber.

BLC 6216 blade features an extensive suite of software including IP Security Management, which allows for dynamic, “hands free” broadband network security.
The new BLC 6216 VDSL2 blade and the corollary software solutions incorporated by OS release 7.0 provide operators with an important new option to extend the lifespan of their copper networks, officials said.

“Whether looking to increase bandwidth for residential or SMB subscribers, the BLC 6216 is a high performance, cost-effective solution that enables operators to leverage existing outside plant enclosures and copper infrastructure,” said Juan Vela (News - Alert), director, solutions marketing and strategy for Occam Networks, in a statement.

BLC 6216 VDSL2 blade has automatic fallback to ADSL2Plus. It can operate in the Occam BLC 6000 system and is compatible with existing BLC deployments- thanks to the distributed intelligence approach adopted in this solution.

Featuring a single rack unit footprint, the blade also works as a stand-alone network element in remote terminal applications or in a 12 RU BLC 6012 chassis with other BLC 6000 blades for high-density central office deployments.

This flexible approach has simplified the migration from older DSL technologies or platforms to VDSL2. Replacement is simple and integration to existing Occam deployments does not require new platforms that disrupt operations.

Officials said that the 48-port BLC 6216, when used with a dual-mode VDSL2/ADSL2Plus modem, can deliver a VDSL2 connection to single family residences, multiple dwelling units/multiple tenant units, and small and medium businesses within 4,000 feet and transitions to longer reach ADSL2Plus technology when placed in nodes at further distances.

And to ensure greater QoE, Occam’s Video Channel Analysis tool is embedded in BLC 6000 blades to monitor IPTV (News - Alert) services. Company officials said Occam will also integrate the BLC 6216 into the Dr. DSL loop analysis tool for outside plant qualification and operations.

Occam Networks recently announced that Northeast Missouri Rural Telephone selected  Occam's BLC 6000 multiservice access platform and ON 2300 series optical network terminals to upgrade the second largest of its 14 exchanges from copper to fiber.
