Comtech AHA Intros New GZIP Data Compression Board

Comtech AHA Corporation, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Comtech Telecommunications (News - Alert) Corp. that develops technology for the communications, networking and data storage markets, has unveiled its latest high speed GZIP Data Compression Board called AHA367-PCIe.

Based on the Open Standard GZIP Data Compression Algorithm, the new AHA367-PCIe supports data throughput of over 10 Gbits/sec for the highest GZIP compression and full-duplex streaming of over 10.0 Gbits/sec uncompressed data using an industry standard X8 lane PCI-Express Interface.

According to the company, this new compression board allows network transmission and network storage appliance customers to significantly reduce the amount of data that is transferred through or stored within their systems.

It also helps in decreasing latency, bandwidth and storage requirements and eases the loading of precious resources inside of these appliances by off-loading the data compression task from the core central processing units.

Moreover, the new AHA367-PCIe offers up to 2.5 Gbits/sec throughput via hardware, with significant power saving over GZIP software compression. Its card architecture allows for easy migration for current customers of the existing AHA363-PCIe card with little or no changes to existing software drivers required, company officials said.

Bill Thomson (News - Alert), president of Comtech AHA said in a statement, “This compression board, coupled with our GZIP Compression IC, solidifies our leadership position in this growing facet of the networking and storage industry. Because our products are based on open standard algorithms and do not require license fees or royalties, they are a compelling choice over competing solutions while delivering the highest performance level.”

He said that with the announcement of the AHA367-PCIe high-speed compression card, Comtech AHA has again demonstrated their commitment to the GZIP data compression market.

The company is currently offering theprototypes of the AHA367-PCIe to beta customers and production quantities will be available in Q3 of 2009.
