With this new service offering, organizations can take advantage of Siemens’ global service delivery network to cover multi-vendor environments, and also hybrid environments comprising legacy, time-division multiplexing (TDM)-based voice and converged session initiation protocol (SIP)-based voice and data networks.
Also, the new OpenScale Operate service packages are expected to allow organizations to share day-to-day communications operations with a trusted partner to optimize network assets and focus more resources and attention on better serving customers.
OpenScale Operate service packages consist of three standard offerings: OpenScale Essential, OpenScale Essential Plus, and OpenScale Assurance.
OpenScale Essential provides basic 24x7 remote break/fix service. Company officials said that it covers hardware and software, and also on-site maintenance and spare parts, while technical support comes with response times based on a standard service level.
OpenScale Essential Plus offers managed services with service level agreement (SLA)-based delivery and monitoring as well as dedicated service desk and service management. In addition, it can also complement existing in-house resources by providing additional skill sets to operate the communications infrastructure.
OpenScale Assurance provides complete, end-to-end Managed Services to maintain, monitor and operate an entire enterprise communications infrastructure - voice, data and security - under the direction of a dedicated Siemens Service Level Manager.
Additionally, Siemens can also customize these packages to fit the needs of enterprises. Officials said that for companies with IT professionals already skilled at operating its communications infrastructure, Siemens can provide OpenScale Essential Software for unified communications.
“With the new OpenScale Operate service packages, Siemens gives enterprise customers the flexibility to choose the right level of operational IT support to meet their particular needs,” said Amy Larsen DeCarlo, principle analyst for Managed IT Services at Current Analysis (

Dirk Idstein, vice president for lifecycle and managed services at Siemens Enterprise also commented that the packages not only can help lower voice and network total cost of ownership and high operating expenses but also increase visibility and cost control, as well as assist with business continuity.
“With Siemens standards-based, open communications architecture as the basis of our OpenScale Operate service packages, enterprises can determine how much of their communications operations they manage, if any, without as much concern about interoperability or being forced to change their IT strategies,” said Idstein.
