Xceed iSATA Embedded Solid State Drive Launched By SMART Modular Technologies

SMART Modular Technologies has announced the new Xceed (News - Alert) iSATA embedded solid state drive (SSD); the latest addition to the Xceed embedded Flash product line. The Xceed iSATA SSD consists of a four channel 3Gb/s SATA-II module level interface. The drive is ideal for industrial-grade server, single board computers, networking, data communications and industrial applications, according to the company. The Xceed iSATA SSD helps to reduce power consumption and increase data throughput.

The industrial-grade Xceed iSATA SSD is ROHS compliant. Since it has been designed for space-constrained embedded applications, it measures only 55.88mm x 30.48mm. With a height of 11.38mm or 12.01mm, the drive has an overall reduced footprint of 60% and 75 percent respectively. The Xceed iSATA SSD has been designed with the industry-standard 22-pin SATA connector. It includes an indicator LED to show drive access, external LED activity signaling, and also a health status monitor. The Xceed iSATA SSD can be integrated into a host system. For this, no special BIOS modifications or additional device drivers are required.

 

The initial capacities of the Xceed iSATA SSD range from 2 to 32GB. It also provides a four-channel Flash interface that enables it to offer sustained read performance of up to 86MB/s. A sustained write performance of up to 55MB/s is also provided by the drive. The Xceed iSATA SSD provides improved performance and capacity when compared to other embedded storage solutions. It has zero seek time and operates noiselessly with a power consumption of only 0.875W.

 

In order to provide improved reliability, the iSATA SSD uses single-level cell NAND Flash technology, advanced on-board error detection and proven correction and static wear-leveling algorithms. It also extends support for Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) while delivering higher shock and vibration performance.
