ESL Intros New Fiber Optic Repeater

Cranston, Rhode Island-based Electro Standards Laboratories (ESL), today announced a new Fiber Optic Repeater used to regenerate data signals to help extend the range between optically linked data terminals.

The new Model 4154 HP Fiber Repeater is able to monitor network traffic via an RS232 Monitor Port. The fiber optic communication standard also allows data transmission that is no longer susceptible to electrostatic or electromagnetic fields.

With the RS-232 Monitor Port, there is no need to worry about damage from potential differences (ground variations) that often exist between them, since it is protected from this type of hazard.

In addition, the Repeater offers full galvanic isolation (no metallic connection) between connected devices and allows the interference-free fiber optical transfer of data to be regenerated and its range further extended.

Fiber connections are via two standard Versatile Link connectors. Link Distance is greater than 500 meters (1640 feet) with 200 mm Hard Clad Silicon fiber cable.

In October, ESL announced Pathway Models 7340, 7340A, and 7340B RJ45 Cat 5e On-Line/Off-Line Switches. Each of these switches allows the capability of connecting two separate devices through ports A and B (News - Alert), via On-Line or Off-Line connection. The switches may be controlled manually via front panel pushbutton or remotely from a DB9 port.

ESL also announced in October its new HP Fiber to RS-232 and HP Fiber to RS-485 Converters that are ideal for casino data networks. These converters connect fiber optic linked terminals to a controller having either RS-485 or RS-232 interface ports.  The major benefit of conversion to a fiber optic communication standard is that the data transmission is no longer susceptible to electrostatic or electromagnetic fields, similar to its new Fiber Optic Repeater.
