Nuvoton Intros Four-channel CODEC/SLIC Chip for VoIP Application

Nuvoton has announced its latest release of the four-channel CODEC/SLIC named W684386 used for short-loop VoIP applications. Nuvoton Technology Corp., a subsidiary of Winbond Electronics Corp, which spun off the unit in July 2008, is focusing on the development of two main product lines, including consumer electronics ICs and computer ICs. 

 

The new W684386 chip released combines four programmable CODECs that enable the device to support a comprehensive set of signalling capabilities required to supervise and control the telephone lines. These include tone generation, ring tones, DTMF generation as well as FSK and metering pulse generation.

 

Its on-chip Pulse (News - Alert) Width Modulation (PWM) driver allows control per channel DC-to-DC converter or a centralized transformer-based DC-to-DC converter. Overall it offers designers a user-friendly signal-processing environment.

 

Its four-channel SLIC block supports programmable impedance matching and trans-hybrid balancing, ensuring that worldwide compliance can be supported from a single hardware configuration. It integrates SLCC (Subscriber Line Control Circuit) functionality with a quad programmable CODEC and a quad DC-to-DC controllers.

 

This latest hybrid device is aimed to serve VoIP equipment market, including products such as high-density VoIP gateways, analog telephone adapters, voice-enabled DSL and cable modems, IP-PBX (News - Alert), FTTX systems and set-top boxes.
