Harris Intros Simplified GUI for Geospatial Search, Tracking and Retrieval

Harris Corporation, a communications and information technology company, has introduced the Geospatial Search Tracking and Retrieval (GeoSTAR) tool, a simplified user interface for geospatial search, tracking and retrieval.

 

GeoSTAR, a commercial off-the-shelf, Web-based graphical user interface (GUI), is the next generation of Harris interfaces. The new interface operates in the context of a Geospatial Information System (GIS), and provides instructions to services and data access layers within a service-oriented architecture.

 

“GeoSTAR advances the Harris technology that has been used over the past decade by thousands of researchers and analysts in government settings,” said Sheldon Fox, president of National Intelligence Programs for Harris Government Communications Systems (News - Alert). “It provides both government and commercial users with a friendlier user interface that is faster and much more convenient.”

 

GeoSTAR supports a variety of imagery formats, which enable Harris’ customers to tailor the display format of the imagery, retrieved to meet their specific needs, added Fox.

 

GeoSTAR is also compatible with main Web browsers accessing and controlling imagery and geospatial products. GeoSTAR allows users to establish their personal profile with preferences and queries from users can be made through multiple libraries. Data catalogs are visible to GIS through a service oriented architecture (SOA) Web service description language (WSDL) interface.

 

Over the past 10 years, Harris’ interfaces have been used by several government analysts. There are two types of usages: researchers may use the standard GeoSTAR interface for maximum flexibility, and they can use the express GeoSTAR interface to simplify repetitive tasks and minimize interactions.

 

Harris recently introduced Geospatial Data Access Retrieval Translator (GeoDART), a new Web-based search engine that enables geospatial information users to perform multiple searches, in parallel and across multiple data sources, using any service-oriented architecture (SOA) platform.

 

GeoDART is the latest data discovery, management and translation software tool embedded within legacy Geospatial Information Systems (GIS). GeoDART has been redesigned as a standardized commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) tool that can be easily plugged into any SOA-based GIS. It is currently being used by thousands of government researchers and analysts.

 

By providing communication and information processing products like GeoSTAR and GeoDART, Harris supports the ongoing transformation of the intelligence community into a more collaborative enterprise.
