Skytap Aligns with SAVVIS for Distribution of Virtual Lab Platform

Skytap, a provider of cloud-based infrastructure solutions, has announced a strategic alliance with SAVVIS (News - Alert), a global provider of IT infrastructure services for business applications.

This new partnership provides that SAVVIS will resell Skytap’s Virtual Lab service. SAVVIS customers will be able to quickly and cost-effectively conduct software development and testing in the cloud using Skytap’s Virtual Lab Platform.

Customers will also be able to run applications in production as part of SAVVIS’ new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) hosting platform and enablement services which were announced separately by SAVVIS today.

"Skytap's cloud platform is an ideal complement to our new SaaS solution, representing a new model for the development and delivery of applications," said Larry Steele, technical vice president, SaaS Services, with SAVVIS, in a Monday statement.

"Our alliance with Skytap provides one part of our complete 'SaaS' application lifecycle management solution, with a closed-loop mechanism for dynamically managing pre-production environments,” added Steele.

Skytap Virtual Lab delivers virtualized infrastructure, which includes hardware, storage and networking resources. Customers gain access to a complete virtual lab solution on demand that includes a pre-populated virtual machines library with major operating systems, databases and other application software.

A cloud-based virtual lab makes sense for high cost, dynamic environments, such as application development and QA, IT ops testing, training and demo environments as they are often the most expensive to administer and require frequent set-up and tear-down.

The Skytap Virtual Lab enables self-service, on-demand scaling of environments as needed and it eliminates the cost of underutilized hardware. With Skytap, organizations can benefit from the management and automation capabilities of a fully automated virtual lab solution that leads to huge productivity increases.

"The promise of cloud computing is a reality for our customers, and we are eager for SAVVIS' customers to have access to these capabilities as part of SAVVIS' total 'SaaS' solution," said Scott Roza, Skytap CEO, in the Monday statement. "By giving them the ability to quickly and affordably scale up and down to support peak testing requirements, SAVVIS customers will be able to reduce costs and time-to-market of new applications.”

Companies have much to gain from considering a cloud computing platform. This new partnership with SAVVIS should enable Skytap to extend its reach beyond conventional markets and grow its brand through increased adoption. As more and more organizations comes to understand the benefits of cloud computing, Skytap will be in a perfect position to drive growth.
